Saturday’s game with Sweden will bring both fond memories and future hopes for England defender Kyle Walker.
The defender made his full debut for the Three Lions against the Swedes in a friendly game at Wembley back in 2012, having previously impressed for the U19s and U21s in previous European Championship campaigns.
And he’s now gone full circle as he prepares to play in what he believes is the biggest game of his career to date when England face Sweden in the World Cup quarter final.
"It's football for you,” he told the Lions’ Den on Thursday.
"I made my debut for England against Sweden and it's come around that I'm now playing probably the biggest game of my career against Sweden, representing my country in the quarter final of a World Cup.
"It's been a massive year for me personally to achieve the things I have, but this is something that I want.
"The Premier League is done now and I've ticked that one off, but to do something for your country and your nation I think blows everything out of the water.
"You work hard all season with your club to get here, but to represent your country, there's nothing better.”
The Manchester City man has also enjoyed seeing the reactions of all the fans in England, with clips of celebrations from throughout the tournament proving a real source of inspiration to the group in Russia.
"When you see the reaction of the people at home - shops are closing in Sheffield to watch the game - it's crazy,” he added.
“You half want to be there to join in with the atmosphere, but I'm glad I'm sat here and we can continue having a few more parties, eh.”
