Warrington and Brackley shock National League opponents in Buildbase FA Trophy

Tuesday 16 Jan 2018
Warrington Town beat Ebbsfleet United 2-0 in their Buildbase FA Trophy replay

Tony Gray and Jamie McDonald both scored as Warrington Town sensationally knocked National League side Ebbsfleet United out of the Buildbase FA Trophy in Tuesday's second round replays.

Gray opened the scoring after 49 minutes for the home side as he finished well from 20 yards after taking McDonald’s lay off and the striker was instrumental in the second as well.

It was Gray’s surging run which set up William Hayhurst to shoot, with his effort parried straight to McDonald to wrap up the surprise 2-0 win and set up a third round tie against Wealdstone.

Fellow National League side Barrow are also out of the Trophy after losing 2-0 to Brackley Town as Aaron Williams and James Armson got the goals.

Williams struck seconds before the half-time whistle after getting in behind the Barrow defence, with Armson following in to poke home after Town had hit the post.

Phil McLuckie was the hero for Workington as he headed Conor Tinnion's cross into the back of the net to help knock out higher league opposition in the shape of Weston Super Mare.

Josh Calvert had opened the scoring for the Cumbrians but they had been pegged back by Naby Diallo’s equaliser only for McLuckie to secure a 2-1 win and a third round tie against Bromley.

Elsewhere, Ben McKenna got a goal on his birthday as Stockport County were 3-0 winners over Kidderminster Harriers and the Hatters will now travel to Maidenhead United in the next round.

Rhys Turner opened the scoring for County before McKenna extended the lead with a Bohan Dixon penalty securing their triumph in the final minute of normal time.

Finally, Gateshead booked their spot in the next round with a 2-1 win over Boreham Wood while Harrogate Town were 5-0 winners over St Albans City
