Romelu Lukaku celebrates scoring in the Emirates FA Cup

A Romelu Lukaku brace helped Manchester United reach the Emirates FA Cup Sixth Round with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

It took just three minutes for Lukaku to strike, latching onto Juan Mata’s pass and firing low past the Jonas Loessl.

He doubled his tally in the second half, exchanging passes with Alexis Sanchez on the counter to put United out of sight.

Southampton also progressed thanks to Wesley Hoedt and Dusan Tadic netting either side of half time in a 2-1 win over West Brom.

Salomon Rondon struck back almost immediately after Tadic’s calm lob, but the Venezuelan’s stunning volley proved to be the hosts’ only goal of the game.

A debut goal from Juergen Locadia helped Brighton & Hove Albion avoid an upset at home to League Two Coventry, who they beat 3-1.

Connor Goldson and Leonardo Ulloa also struck to ensure Jonson Clarke-Harris’ late strike was only a consolation.

Both teams hit the woodwork in a frenetic opening, but the Premier League side asserted their authority to move two goals clear by the break, with Ulloa’s towering header sealing the win just after the hour mark.

Clarke-Harris hit the woodwork again, and eventually got the goal he deserved, driving home a loose ball late on.

One side still in the competition capable of causing an upset are Sheffield Wednesday after they held Premier League outfit Swansea to a 0-0 draw in the day’s early kick-off.

Owls goalkeeper Cameron Dawson produced an excellent save to keep out Mike van der Hoorn’s close-range header and light up the first half at Hillsborough.

Adam Reach went close for the hosts in the opening minutes and Atdhe Nuhiu shot straight at Swansea keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt in the home side’s best chances.

Swans manager Carlos Carvalhal threw on the substitutes to try and win the game late on against his former employers but the tie will now be replayed on Tuesday 27 February.
