The SSE Women’s FA Cup third round qualifying got underway today with 48 ties across the country, plenty of goals and plenty of upsets.

There was an eye-catching result in south west London as AFC Wimbledon Ladies cruised to a 14-1 win over Woodley United LFC.

The FA Women's Premier League South East Division One side will go into the First Round in confident mood, as will Carlisle United who won 9-1 at Newcastle United.

There was an upset in the north east as seventh-tier Alnwick Town Juniors beat FA Women's Premier League Midlands Division One side Rotherham united 5-0.

Amy Hately, captain Georgia Thompson and Jade Barrett all got on the scoresheet with Alnwick marching on to the First Round.

There was drama in the Yorkshire derby between Sheffield United and Leeds United at Bramall Lane, with the game ending all square at 3-3 and the south Yorkshire side winning 3-2 on penalties.

Kez Huegett bagged a double for Leeds but Nat Shaw and Millie Kenyon both notched for the Bladettes to take the game to extra time.

There was also a big win for east Yorkshire side Hull City, who downed Crewe Alexandra 4-1 thanks to goals from Katie Thompson, Rachael Ackroyd, Rebecca Beech and Hope Knight.

Elsewhere, Brighouse Town defeated Wakefield 6-1, Leyton Orient ran out 7-0 winners over Billericay Town and Loughborough Students claimed a 3-0 win against Brereton Town.

Wymondham Town produced the most remarkable result of the day against Newmarket Town.

With the scores level at 2-2 at the end of normal time, Wymondham displayed a ruthless streak to finish up 9-2 winners – Laura Nicholls picking up four goals and the player of the match award.
