Dael Fry and his team-mates had the option of a post-match parmo after their victory on Teesside

After a successful homecoming with England in Middlesbrough on Friday, U21s defender Dael Fry was keen to see his team-mates sample the local delicacy.

The Young Lions ran out as 3-1 winners over Scotland at the Riverside Stadium and the Boro man’s special request of chicken ‘parmo’ for their post-match refuelling was fulfilled at their Teesside base.

And that treat capped off a perfect evening for Fry, who received one of the biggest cheers of the night when his name was read out before the game.

“We’ve got chicken parmo on tonight, so I’m delighted about that and I’m sure a few of the lads will be coming back to Middlesbrough for one,” he laughed.

“The lads all shutting it down now, but once they put it in their mouth, that’s it.

“But it was absolutely amazing tonight, all of my family and friends were here and to play for England on my home ground where I grew up, it was such an honour.

“I was listening out for the crowd and when I got a good cheer, it was a moment I won’t forget. The fans are always excellent here and they were excellent tonight.

“I heard there was going to be a lot of people coming, maybe because of me with all the tickets I needed.

“I’m just happy we gave them a good performance and something to cheer.”

The result means Aidy Boothroyd’s squad now travel to face Andorra on Sunday sitting on the top of their qualifying group.

And Fry believes the squad will be ready for the challenges they might face in Pyrenees on Tuesday evening.

“It’ll always be tough going to foreign opposition and obviously in a different country there are things that will change,” he added.

“It’ll be different, but I’m sure the lads will enjoy it and we’ll be prepared for the game.”
