London Helvecia crowned National Futsal League champions

Helvecia and Baku lineup ahead of the final

A captain’s performance from Raoni Medina saw London Helvecia crowned FA National Futsal League champions at the weekend and qualify for the Champions League in the process.

England international Medina scored twice in a 4-1 defeat of London Baku United in the final clinch the title at Wolverhampton University.

In the women’s competition Preston Newall were crowned champions, with Nikki Berko bagging 10 goals in two games.

The weekend began with Super League North champions Birmingham meeting champions of the Super League South, Helvecia. 

After an even first half, the Londoners pulled away to win 8-4 with goals from Guilherme Monti (3), Joao Toti-Ferras (2), Medina (2) and Keir Dickson (1). Birmingham registered through Pol Verdaguer and Marc Salvago to go with two own goals.

London Genesis and Baku were next to face off, their semi-final finishing 5-1 with Jarrod Basger hitting a hat-trick and there were goals too for Mindaugas Laduckas and Diego Pagliuso.

Basger was on target again in the final, but two goals from Medina, plus strikes from Richard Ward and Monti saw Helvecia crowned champions.

In the women’s competition, Just a Ball Game beat Fusion 8-2 to reach the final and were joined by Preston Newall, who saw off South London Ladies 8-7 – Berko hitting seven goals.

She followed up with a treble in the final, while Charlotte Higginson also hit a hat-trick and Rachel Warren was on target too in a 7-3 defeat of JBG.
