James Pearson and Emmanuel Sonupe scored the decisive goals as Kidderminster Harriers beat defending Buildbase FA Trophy champions York City.

John Eustace’s men were superb in the first half of their first-round tie on Saturday, with Sonupe particularly dangerous, and they made their dominance count.

Pearson broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark by tapping in following a blocked shot and just a minute later, Sonupe broke clear and prodded into the bottom corner.

York responded after the break and with 15 minutes left, they got back into the game through a stunning Amari Morgan-Smith strike, as he curled into the top corner against his former club.

The Minstermen went close to levelling through Alex Pattison’s looping strike before Jon Parkin forced the keeper into a diving save but it was too little too late.

Elsewhere, on a busy day, Workington stunned former Football League stalwarts Hartlepool United, with a late Scott Allison goal securing a memorable win.

Allison coolly finished from Nathan Waterston’s cross eight minutes from time while things got worse for the visitors when midfielder Lewis Hawkins received a second yellow card late on.

Harrogate Town also caused a shock as they beat Wrexham 2-0, with Mark Beck the hero.

Beck scored his first two goals for the club to knock out the National League side.

Beck, playing against his former team, opened the scoring just before the break with a neat finish before he converted Ryan Fallowfield’s deep cross in the second half.

Elsewhere, Marine beat Chorley 3-1 on the road while Leyton Orient survived a scare by coming from behind to win 2-1 at Haringey Borough and Hendon beat Bath City 2-1.

Sutton United, who reached the Emirates FA Cup fifth round last season, saw off Truro City 1-0 while Billericay Town continued on their way with a 3-1 win against Havant & Waterlooville and Whitehawk fell 2-1 at home to St Albans.

The weather disrupted a few fixtures, with FC Halifax Town’s clash with Macclesfield Town and Spennymoor Town against Gainsborough Trinity both postponed.

Solihull Moors’ game with Tranmere Rangers was abandoned due to floodlight failure.
