O'Connor at the double as North Greenford progress

Tuesday 13 Sep 2016
North Greenford were 4-0 winners over Stotfold in the Buildbase FA Vase

Anthony O’Connor’s double helped North Greenford United set up a home tie against Oxhey Jets as they cruised to a 4-0 Buildbase FA Vase first round qualifying replay win over Stotfold on Tuesday evening.

Danny Vincent nodded in Glenn Yala’s pinpoint 16th-minute cross to give North Greenford the lead and when Stotfold defender Kamal Romain was sent off for bringing down O’Connor early in the second half, his side were made to pay.

Firstly O’Connor rounded Eagles keeper Harry Pilsworth to slot home following Sandro Costa’s exquisite through-ball and he tapped in Yala’s centre from close-range with 20 minutes left.

Charlie Connor made it 4-0 with a simple finish on 83 minutes and O’Connor should have had a hat-trick at the death, only to see his low penalty saved by Pilsworth.

But North Greenford will be in the second round qualifying regardless and will be joined by Mildenhall Town, who were also 4-0 replay winners over Wisbech Town.

The Hall found themselves 3-0 up inside 12 minutes after an own goal and Dan Brown’s well-taken double before Alex Stillinger completed the scoring after half time to book a clash with Peterborough Sports.

Things were less straightforward for Tring Athletic but they still emerged as 2-0 winners over Spelthorne Sports – Chris Vardy netting both goals in the second half.

Selsey FC now face a trip to Horley Town after they saw off Langey Wanderers in style at the second time of asking – winning 4-1 – while Chichester City edged past Whitstable Town 3-2 in an entertaining encounter.

And Leighton Town also snuck through by a single goal as they prevailed 4-3 against Brackley Town Saints, meaning they will travel to Northampton ON Chenecks in the next round.

Deeping Rangers and Walsham-le-Willows had played out a 2-2 draw in their first clash on Saturday but put on an even more enthralling contest in the replay.

Charlie Coulson and Scott Coupland helped Deeping into a 2-0 lead at the break before Walsham-le-Willows hit back with a Craig Nurse hat-trick to move 3-2 ahead.

Coupland was on target with a late spot-kick to take the game to extra-time at 3-3 and when no goals were scored in the additional 30 minutes, the lottery of a penalty shootout ensued.

Twelve penalties failed to separate the sides but, with Deeping’s second attempt of sudden death, Will Bird missed before Walsham converted to set up a tie away to Boston Town.

There were also two first round qualifying matches that didn’t need a replay completed on Tuesday as Clifton All Whites hammered Oadby Town 7-0 and Bournemouth FC beat Verwood Town 4-3 in a high-scoring thriller.
