The next generation of FC United of Manchester stars ignited their FA Youth Cup campaign with a 3-0 win over Curzon Ashton in their preliminary round tie.

A crowd of 391 had to wait 65 minutes for the breakthrough, which arrived courtesy of a driven free-kick from Jack Ward.

With nine minutes left to play Jack Preston nodded in the second and progress was assured when Jack O’Leary slotted past the keeper at his near post in the final moments.

Two goals apiece from Matty MacDonald and Greg Preece helped Hereford to an 8-0 defeat of Malvern Town.

The Bulls led 3-0 at the break through Harry Franklin, Kieran Young and MacDonald.

Jamie Davies extended the advantage before Preece chipped in with a quick-fire double, including one from the penalty spot.

MacDonald then doubled his tally for the night before George Hayes completed the scoring.

Elsewhere, Darren Purse’s young Rushden & Diamonds side triumphed 5-1 at Wellingborough Town, with two goals from Hayford Osei.

There were hat-tricks for Adam Liddle and Dalson Ernesto as Chertsey Town beat Redhill 10-0, while Casey Stewart hit a hat-trick then set up Charley Birley in Tadcaster Albion’s 4-1 defeat of Brighouse Town.

Joe Brandon struck twice as Vauxhall Motors edged past Warrington Town 2-1. There were two goals as well for Archie McCarthy in Salisbury’s 4-2 win against Wimborne Town.

Max Stacey bagged a brace in Worthing’s 7-0 victory against Dorking, with Jack Newham, Marshall Ball, Reece Hallard, Landry Cheta and Jake Heryet also on target.

Mile Oak and Alton Town both progressed via penalty shootouts, at the expense of Chessington & Hook United and Highmoor Ibis respectively.
