Young Lions come from behind in final Euro Qualifier to make it three wins from three

Sunday 30 Oct 2016

England Under-17s came from behind to beat Austria 3-2 and top their Euro 2017 qualifying group in Romania .on Sunday afternoon.

Lewis Gibson, Danny Loader and Rhian Brewster's spot-kick made it three wins out of three in Group 9 to seal qualification to the Elite Qualifying Round next spring.

And after Steve Cooper made eight changes to the team that beat hosts Romania 3-0 on Thursday, Austria took advantage of the new look line-up in the opening stages and went ahead on 28 minutes when Thierno Ballo turned in a Nicholas Wunsch free-kick.

But England drew level on the stroke on half-time, moments after Brewster had a lob over the keeper cleared off the line.

Newcastle left-back Gibson took Callum Hudson-Odoi's pass in his stride and as he broke into the corner of the box, he pinged a left-foot shot into the top right corner to register his first England goal.

The second-half was just over three minutes old when Reading striker Loader was well placed to turn the ball home after Brewster's shot from just inside the box rattled the post.

And the match looked to be all over when England were awarded a 65th-minute penalty.

Gibson again linked up with Chelsea's Hudson-Odoi down the left, and when he went down under the challenge of Fabian Markl, the referee pointed to the spot.

Liverpool forward Brewster drilled his spot-kick into the bottom right corner and that looked to be that, until Austria won a 78th-minute penalty of their own when Morgan Gibbs White of Wolves fouled Wunsch and Ballo sent keeper Curtis Anderson the wrong way.

But Anderson got it absolutely right when he had to dive full-length to turn away a last-minute effort from Wunsch to preserve his side's 100 per cent record.
