We're pleased to have Harry Kane available, says Gareth Southgate

Gareth Southgate says he's pleased to have Harry Kane in his squad for this month's games against Scotland and Spain.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker had been out of action since mid-September, but made a goal-scoring return in Sunday's North London derby.

Hours later, he was named in Southgate's 25-man party for November's fixtures – and the interim boss says he's glad to have the 23-year-old available.

"Harry is a proven goalscorer at every level," he told FATV. "He's a player I've worked with before, with the Under-21s, so I know his character.

"It's obviously early stages of coming back from quite a long injury but we saw today the desire that he has and the knack of being in the right place at the right time - not only the goal he scored, but a couple of other chances. It's good to have him back in with the squad.

"We weren't sure whether he would start today, and he's probably given a lot for the cause so I'm sure he'll be aching tonight! Our relationship with Tottenham is very good  we've obviously got a lot of players in their squad and have had at under-21 level in the past, so that's very helpful when you're trying to get a feel of where players are physically."

Where there was good news on Kane, there was disappointment for Dele Alli as he was ruled out of the game against Arsenal as well as the Three Lions squad.

"It's obviously disappointing for Dele to miss the game today, and to miss our matches as well," said Southgate, who confirmed that Kyle Walker should be fit despite going off injured during the game.

"He's a player that has been a very good performer for England over the last year and a half [and] he's a goalscorer. It is a shame not to have him, but it gives opportunities for others as well.

"We've named 25 [players] because there are a couple of players that we need to have a look at when they arrive, and there are a couple of situations to monitor. We've also got two matches, so we need to have some cover there.

"All being well, we should be in a good place."
