Boreham Wood secure replay with Notts County on busy afternoon of first round action

Sunday 06 Nov 2016

Callum Camps’ 94th-minute equaliser denied Maidstone United a famous Emirates FA Cup shock as they were forced to settle for a replay after a 1-1 draw with Rochdale.

The League One side had looked set to slip out at the first round stage, but Camps’ deflected free-kick from the last kick of the game means the two sides will meet again for a replay.

Despite being 57 places below their opponents, National League side Maidstone United opened the scoring thanks to Bobby-Joe Taylor's first-half penalty after Niall Canavan fouled Jamar Loza.

It seemed that 20th-minute strike would be enough, only for Camps to put Dale in Monday’s second round draw after Steven Davies had an effort ruled out for offside.

They’ll be joined in the hat by National League rivals Boreham Wood, although they surrendered a 2-0 lead to eventually draw 2-2 with League Two outfit Notts County.

Morgan Ferrier's angled shot and Angelo Balanta's strike from six yards had given the non-League side a strong advantage with just 40 minutes left to play at Meadow Park.

But Adam Campbell’s double spared County blushes, firing home from 20 yards before nodding in from close range to keep his side in with a chance of reaching the second round for the first time in four seasons.

But there was no such trouble for Carlisle United, as Jabo Ibehre’s late double saw them get the better of St Albans City in an eight-goal thriller.

That was despite Junior Morias’ stupendous 30-yard opener for the National League South side within just four minutes, getting his double in the second half.

However, Danny Grainger and Jason Kennedy helped the Cumbrians into the lead before Ibehre’s double and Reggie Lambe secured the win, despite Louie Theophanous’ consolation volley.

Elsewhere, eighth-tier Taunton Town held 10-man Barrow Town to a 2-2 draw, with all four goals coming in the first half.

Matt Wright and Matt Villis netted for the hosts with Byron Harrison and Richard Bennett both picking up equalisers.

Alfreton Town and Newport County will themselves go to a replay, drawing 1-1, with the same score between Morecambe and Coventry too.

Sheffield United eased past League Two Leyton Orient 6-0 thanks to Harry Chapman’s second-half hat-trick, while Blackpool knocked out Kidderminster 2-0.

Finally, Stamford’s Emirates FA Cup run is over at the first round stage, they and their 500 plus fans lost 3-0 at Victoria Park as Hartlepool went into Monday’s second round draw.
