Wrexham's Mickey Thomas fires home the winner against Arsenal

It's one of the most famous Emirates FA Cup upsets of all time and ahead of this week's third round proper, we take a look back at Wrexham's 2-1 victory over Arsenal in 1992.

Brian Flynn's side were in the lower reaches of the Fourth Division when they hosted the reigning First Division champions at the Racecourse Ground and no-one envisaged anything other than a victory for George Graham's Gunners.

It looked as though that would be the case too, when Alan Smith put Arsenal ahead in North Wales after converting a Paul Merson cross two minutes before half time.

But when Red Dragons captain and former Manchester United full-back Mickey Thomas produced a stunning free-kick to drag Wrexham level in the 82nd minute, an upset was on the cards.

Wrexham took advantage and just two minutes after Thomas' stunner, young striker Steve Watkin fired past David Seaman to give Wrexham one of their most famous moments.
