A Dean Beckwith own goal in extra time put Bognor Regis Town into the FA Trophy fourth round for the first time in their history after a 2-1 win over Sutton United.

A 0-0 draw last weekend had forced this Tuesday night third round replay and it was the hosts Bognor who sprung a surprise, taking the lead in the first half through Jason Prior.

The Us equalised after the break through Stuart Fleetwood’s penalty and that was how it stayed until the end of 90 minutes.

However, just when it looked like penalties might be needed to split these two teams it was Beckwith who put through his own net to send the Rocks into the fourth round.

Until this season Bognor had never been past the final 32 in this competition but they still do not know the identity of their fourth round opponents.

It will take a replay to decide who travels to Nyewood Lane after Torquay and Macclesfield played out a dramatic 3-3 draw in their third round clash.

Their game on the weekend had been postponed and it was the hosts Torquay who started brightest on Tuesdaay, Josh Rees slotting home in the first half on his home debut.

Leading by a goal at the break, it was looking promising for the hosts but the game burst to life in the second half.

Jack Sampson equalised for the Silkmen before Dan Butler put the Gulls back in front with a cross-cum-shot.

If there was an element of luck about that strike, Macclesfield’s leveller was even more fortunate as a mishit shot from Paul Turnbull deflected in off his teammate Neill Byrne.

The visitors then thought they had won it when Kristian Dennis slotted home but Ifeanyi Allen curled home a leveller for the Gulls to set up a replay in a week’s time at Moss Rose.
