Chelsea & Man City Bosses react to FA Youth Cup Final draw

Chelsea manager Joe Edwards left Manchester City satisfied with a draw in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup Final.

Two second-half goals, one from either side, mean the destination of the cup is still up in the air.

Mason Mount fired the visitors ahead shortly after half-time but Aaron Nemane equalised with 20 minutes to go and neither side could grab a vital advantage ahead of the second leg.

“If anyone was going to win it towards the end, it was possibly us so on the whole I’m pleased that we’ve got a decent result to take back to the bridge,” said Edwards.

“When we come and play Manchester city we want to get at them.

“We don’t want to sacrifice possession because if you let some of their players get the ball in our defensive area, they can cause problems.

“So we wanted to press high and that requires a lot of work and energy.

“I think everyone that played tonight showed a great attitude to keep digging in and we got through it in the end."

City boss Jason Wilcox was left ruing missed chances and a sloppy goal as they missed the opportunity to take a commanding lead in their home leg.

“I’ve told the lads that these games are decided in both boxes, so when we’re on top we have to be more clinical and we can’t give away silly goals,” said Wilcox.

“But I thought the lads showed a lot of character and a lot of pride and the tie is still open.

“I think we conceded a very poor goal but we did well to get ourselves back in the game. I thought it was a funny game.

“I thought they started well, then we got back into it, then they came back into it, so it was a real advert for attacking football."
