England winger Raheem Sterling has won the Premier League player of the month award for August.

Sterling has scored twice in three games for Manchester City, as well as grabbing an assist and winning a penalty.

That form was enough to see him clear of Chelsea's Eden Hazard, Manchester United man Antonio Valencia and Curtis Davies of Hull City in winning the prize, which is voted for by supporters and experts.

"I'm absolutely delighted to have won the EA SPORTS Premier League Player of the Month Award for August," said Sterling.

"As a club we've had a fantastic start to the Premier League season and to be recognised individually in this way is very pleasing. To receive personal awards is great, but it really is all about the team.

“I hope this is a sign of things to come”

"We're only just at the beginning of the campaign and there is a long way to go, but I only hope that this is a sign of things to come and by the end of the season the team will be getting our hands on some silverware."

Sterling is among the England players returning to club action on a weekend full of intriguing battles in the Premier League.

Joe Hart, meanwhile, could make his debut for Italian side Torino having moved on loan from City during the last 48 hours of the summer transfer window.
