Theo Walcott strikes again but Arsenal taste home defeat

Walcott bagged his fourth of the season for Arsenal

Theo Walcott got himself on the score sheet but could not prevent Arsenal from slipping to a second consecutive Champions League defeat.

The Gunners went down 3-2 against Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

Felipe Pardo gave the Greek visitors the lead before Walcott, who has notched seven goals in 41 senior England appearances, equalised with a low finish. It was his fourth for Arsene Wenger's side this season.

Gunners goalkeeper David Ospina then fumbled the ball over his own line and although Alexis Sanchez headed an equaliser, Alfred Finnbogason netted a 66th-minute winner.

England internationals Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also played the full 90 minutes in north London.

The Arsenal trio were not the only England stars to suffer European disappointment as centre-back Gary Cahill featured for Chelsea as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Porto.

Cahill, who has 37 England caps, started for the Blues but goals from Andre Andre and Maicon meant Willian’s free-kick on the stroke of half-time was not enough for the English outfit in Portugal.

There were plenty of England players finding success in the Football League on Tuesday evening, however.

Sheyi Ojo

Sheyi Ojo helped Wolves win at Fulham

Under-19s international Sheyi Ojo was the star at Craven Cottage as he came off the bench to score one and make another in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 3-0 Championship triumph over Fulham.

Liverpool loanee Ojo’s shot was turned in by Adam Le Fondre on 56 minutes to give Wolves the lead and the 18-year-old, who received his first call-up to the U19s in August, then produced a low left-footed drive to make it 2-0 before James Henry completed the scoring.

Ojo was joined in the Wolves side by fellow internationals Dominic Iorfa and Kortney Hause as the West-Midlands outfit extended their unbeaten League run to three games.

Elsewhere, England Under-20s star Demarai Gray was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet, although his Birmingham team still beat Brentford 2-0.

In League One, another England U20s representative, Kwame Thomas, came off the bench in Blackpool’s 2-0 win over Chesterfield.

And in League Two, England U19s goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was in good form for Crawley – the Newcastle United loanee keeping a clean sheet as they picked up a 3-0 victory away to Newport County.
