Mollie Rouse scored just before half-time

England Women’s Under-19s’ opening match of the season ended in defeat as they were beaten 5-2 by Spain.

Mo Marley has taken her Young Lionesses to Slovakia to begin preparations for their European Championship qualifiers next spring.

But the season did not get off to the best of starts as England found themselves 3-0 down before the 40th minute.

Aston Villa midfielder Mollie Rouse pulled a goal back, but Spain extended their lead once more early in the second half.

Arsenal forward Chloe Kelly got herself on the scoresheet to reduce arrears, but Spain notched a final goal late on.
