Ahmed Mohammed pulled one back a minute later, but Nick Reynolds restored the two-goal cushion with his third of the season.

Substitute Robbie Farrell was sent off seven minutes from time and the Blues reduced the arrears through Yannis Ambroisine, but Romford hung on and will meet Slough Town in round two.

St Ives Town will play Kettering Town in round two, after seeing off Rugby Town 4-2.

Rugby Town took the lead through David Kolodynski, but Jack Higgs levelled, curling in a free-kick from 25 yards.

Stu Eason put St Ives ahead by half-time heading in a corner from close range.

Danny Watson and Charlie Deeth then found the net to make sure of their progress to round two, though Kevin Thornton did register a fine consolation.

Gav Allott scored twice after Lee Bennett’s sensational opener to help Shaw Lane Aquaforce to a 3-0 win against New Mills.

A goal 13 minutes from time from Jack Sammoutis was enough for Walton Casuals to see off Sittingbourne 1-0.
