Sambou's salvo fires Sky Blues into Second Round Proper

Thursday 05 Nov 2015
There were some fine individual performances in Wednesday's FA Youth Cup games

In-form Bassala Sambou struck four times as Coventry City marched into The FA Youth Cup second round with a 4-1 win at Walsall.

Sambou, who went into this game with eight goals in his last five outings, opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

And he fired into the top left-hand corner on the half-hour mark to double Coventry’s lead.

The visitors scored a third before half time as Sambou claimed the match ball, but Walsall seemingly had a lifeline when Tobias Hayles-Docherty struck just after the restart.

But the night belonged to Sambou who hit his fourth in the final moments.

There was also a hat-trick for Jordan Brown as Cambridge United beat Hayes & Yeading United 5-0.

After leading 1-0 at the interval through Brown, he completed his hat-trick soon after the break before Justin Leavers and Josh Emmins scored in the final five minutes.

Kieran Hall struck twice in extra time as Carlisle United beat Tranmere Rovers 3-2, the teams having been locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Curtis Morrison marked his return from injury with a brace as Chesterfield won 3-2 at Stourbridge.

And two goals from Matthew Gillam were enough for Rochdale to advance with a 2-0 win at Altrincham.

Worthing needed extra time to see off a brave challenge from Sutton United, eventually triumphing 4-3 after the visitors had led 2-0 at the interval, but Sutton fought back to force a 3-3 after 90 minutes, before Mike Waller’s goal decided matters.

After 120 minutes failed to find a goal between Ilkeston and Burton Albion, the Brewers eventually succumbed 5-4 via a penalty shootout.

And Exeter City won 6-1 at Bournemouth FC to set up a meeting with Oxford United in round two.
