Kazaiah Sterling is hoping to put the finishing touches to a whirlwind few weeks by firing England Under-17s to the European Championship.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward scored on his international debut last month at the Algarve Tournament in a 1-1 draw against Portugal before netting against Chelsea in The FA Youth Cup Semi-Final first-leg in Spurs’ 2-0 victory.

The 16-year-old is currently at St. George’s Park as John Peacock’s Young Lions prepare for their Euro 2015 U17 Elite Round qualifiers against Norway, Slovenia and Romania.

Ahead of Saturday’s opener against Norway at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium, the youngster sat down with TheFA.com to reflect on the past month.

“These have been a big few weeks, and it’s all come at once," he said. "Things have gone well, but I haven’t had much chance to think about – things just keep happening. Hopefully that will continue and we can reach the Euros.

“I had a lot of messages from people congratulating me and being really supportive, so it was really great.

“It’s been so good. Throughout the year since pre-season I have been working really hard to improve myself, and I’m just pleased to see that some of that is starting to pay off.”

But despite his strikes, the goal-hungry forward is not prepared to sit back and relax.

He harbours hopes of appearing in a European Championship this summer, but he knows he has to be spot on with his finishing if he and England are to reach the final tournament in Bulgaria.

“Just because I’ve scored for England and in The Youth Cup, I don’t just want to stop there – I want more goals”

“I was pleased to get re-selected. I thought I did OK in Portugal, and I just want to kick on now and try and qualify for the Euros, that would be a big achievement for me and the team.

“It’s the Elite Rounds, so it is going to be tough. These teams will be very hard and good defensively, so attacking is going to be really important and we have to take our chances.”

He added: “I want to continue improving. Just because I’ve scored for England and in The Youth Cup, I don’t just want to stop there – I want more goals.

“At Tottenham, we always practice a range of finishing so we work on heading, contact finishing, just so when that chance does come you are prepared for it.”
