Shaw Lane looking to 'create history', says Craig Elliot

Shaw Lane and Glossop hope to go one step closer to Wembley

Shaw Lane Aquaforce manager Craig Elliot believes his team's magical FA Vase Cup run is helping put them on the map.

Three years ago Shaw Lane Aquaforce did not even exist - but now they found themselves three games away from a dream FA Vase Final at Wembley.

The Northern Counties East Premier Division side are making their debut in the competition and, after drawing 2-2 with Glossop North End, they face a replay with the Derbyshire team this weekend. A place in the semi-finals is the reward for the winners.

It marks a quite remarkable journey for Shaw Lane - one that Elliott says is an "amazing achievement".

"We are essentially a brand new team, so we are trying to create our own history and doing well in this tournament is helping us achieve that aim," Elliot told TheFA.com.

"We have only been going two seasons, so it's an amazing achievement to get this far.

"And this is actually our first year in the competition so to get to the quarter-finals is brilliant."

He added: "When you look at the likes of Glossop and North Shields, who have such a rich history in this competition, it's great to see us there too.

"It's an amazing club and everyone can be so proud of what we have done."

Last weekend's draw with Glossop North End proved to be an enthralling encounter, with extra-time still not enough to separate the sides.

“It's an amazing achievement to get this far.”

After taking the lead, in the end it was Shaw Lane who were holding out for a replay and Elliot knows his side must improve ahead of the replay.

"Glossop were the better team on the day and put us under a lot of pressure. We played nowhere near our potential," Elliot added.

"We played well for the first 20 minutes and obviously we got the goal after the first 10.

"But all credit to Glossop, they could have won it on the day and they'll be favourites at the weekend."

Victory against Glossop North End at the weekend will see Shaw Lane set-up a semi-final date with Cornish outfit AFC St Austell. Click here for semi-final draw details.
