'Bringing Opportunities to Communities’ in Leicester

Tuesday 09 Jun 2015
The ‘Bringing Opportunities to Communities’ event takes place on Saturday

The FA will hold its first event as part of the ‘Bringing Opportunities to Communities’ plan, a month on from the programme's launch.

Partnering with leading Asian club, GNG FC Leicester, the event and programme will seek to increase Asian inclusion in grassroots football.

It takes place at GNG’s Riverside premises in Leicester on Saturday 13 June, where a best practice day will be delivered on Talent Identification.

It will cater predominantly for Asian grassroots coaches, managers and recruitment officers to better equip them to select aspiring players.

The latest Asians In Football forum took place in Sheffield on 28 August.

The FA also organised a series of 'Asians in Football' seminars earlier in 2015

Presenters will include Steve Brown, The FA’s head of talent ID and Rashid Abba, West Ham United’s Foundation manager.

Brentford FC and Middlesex FA Scout Manisha Tailor and Leicester GNGs own FA Coach Mentor Ashvir Singh Johal will also speak.

Coaches will be given classroom sessions and then put through their paces on the pitch by Steve Brown, Manisha Tailor and GNGs own Ashvir Singh Johal with a live example of Talent ID in action.

The event is free and FA Licensed coaches will receive CPD hours towards their qualification.

Kulwinder Singh Johal, GNGs Club co-ordinator said: "GNG Leicester is delighted to host this first event under The FA’s new plan.

“We are now identifying gaps internally at Asian clubs and the wider football system which must be bridged”

"We are quite a large community club, our focus is moving up the football ladder which means having good talent identification processes in place.

"Our club has catered for several generations of Asian players, as well as from other communities, and helping them get more of a foothold in the game can only be a good thing.

"With the help of the FA we are now identifying gaps internally at Asian clubs and the wider football system which must be bridged in order to increase the number of Asians in football at all levels of the game."

The event has limited places and booking is required.
