Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is looking forward to returning to one of his former clubs as his new charges travel to Southampton in The FA Cup on Saturday.

Pardew was the last manager to bring silverware to the south coast side after they won the Football League Trophy in 2010, when they defeated Carlisle 4-1 at Wembley.

The Eagles boss is not alone in returning to Southampton as Jason Puncheon had a four-year spell with the Saints before moving to Selhurst Park last January.

Pardew said: "It is always nice to go back to your old club, because you have people there who you love and want to see and I am looking forward to seeing a few friends there.

"I had a good time there, I enjoyed it and the football was terrific.

"I only have good feelings and I am sure Puncheon does as well, his memories are even stronger than mine because he was there through the promotions and established himself into a real talent. Southampton Football Club need a lot of praise for that."

This fixture has already broken records as the tie sold out in 24 hours, and it is set to be lively atmosphere.

Southampton have had the upper hand recently, winning the last four encounters, but Pardew is hopeful his side can turn it around.

The Fourth Round tie will also be an emotional occasion for Southampton captain Jose Fonte, who Pardew originally signed from Palace in 2010.

Pardew insists that he will prepare for the game like it is a vital league game and he will look to outfox Ronald Koeman in the opposite dug out.

He added: "The Cup is exactly the same as any other game that I enter. Preparation will be flawless, as good as I can make it, tactically we will come up with a game plan.

"Sometimes it works, sometimes the players can see it and produce the performance to see that tactic through.

"Sometimes they can't, sometimes that is because the manager has got people in the wrong position or they couldn't perform on the day.

"So a combination of the two can some what throw the plan but our preparation for this game is thorough.

"I know Southampton well of course but it will be a tough game for us."
