The FA Cup Third Round Proper: Top Five Saves

Thursday 08 Jan 2015
Dover Athletic's Andy Rafferty was in good form against Crystal Palace

Whilst it's often the goalscorers who make the headlines in The FA Cup Third Round Proper, the unsung heroes at the other end were hard at work during the 32 ties earlier this week.

With seven ties to be decided through replays next week, we've looked through all of the highlights from the first set of games to pick out some of the best saves.

Have a watch of the collection below and see if you agree.

5. Simon Mignolet - AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Liverpool

Liverpool's Belgian 'keeper kept their first-half lead in tact with a fantastic reaction save.

4. Adam Bogdan - Bolton Wanderers 1-0 Wigan Athletic

The flame-haired Bolton stopper produced a stunning save to help his team through to the Fourth Round Proper.

3. David Raya Martin - Derby County 1-0 Southport

On loan to Southport from Blackburn Rovers, the young Spaniard's great double-save caught the eye at the iPro Stadium but he couldn't prevent the non-League side from defeat.

2. Andy Rafferty - Dover Athletic 0-4 Crystal Palace

The Dover 'keeper had a busy afternoon at the Crabble, making a string of good saves throughout the game but his effort to turn Joel Ward's deflected shot around the post was the pick of the bunch.

1. Jak Alnwick - Leicester City 1-0 Newcastle United

The former England U20s goalkeeper has been growing in confidence in recent weeks and pulled off a stunning close-range save to deny Chris Woods a goal.
