The famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom will host the festival

Normally known for the glitz and glamour of Strictly Come Dancing, the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom is to host a very special football festival, it has been announced.

Lancashire FA, in conjunction with the Blackpool Tower and the Poulton & District Primary League, will run the first ever mini-football festival to be played within The Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

The games will be played using The FA Respect inflatable pitch, and 18 grassroots teams from Blackpool and Fylde will compete.

Each team will play five games under the famous chandeliers – though the FIFA approved futsal ball will ensure none are smashed by a wayward shot.

The competition is open to the six and seven-year-old age groups from the participating clubs.

Parents and spectators will be able to watch all the action from the ballroom stalls and will have a bird’s eye view of all the action.

Lancashire FA’s chief operating officer Roger De Nobrega said the day promises to be an exciting occasion at a famous landmark.

“The Blackpool Tower Ballroom is an iconic feature of the Blackpool and Fylde landscape,” he said.

“With such a splendid venue we thought it was a great idea to introduce football to children who are just starting out in their football careers and give them an experience they will never forget.

“We thank Blackpool Tower and Merlin Entertainment for giving us this opportunity and we are sure the children will have a great time.”

The Lancashire FA Blackpool Tower Ballroom Mini-Soccer Festival will be played on Friday 20 February 2015.

The event begins at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm.
