Raheem Sterling enjoyed a victorious home debut for Manchester City as the Citizens recorded a 3-0 victory against Chelsea.

There was also a clean sheet for England goalkeeper Joe Hart, as a Chelsea side containing Gary Cahill were outplayed in front of a packed Etihad Stadium.

Sunday's results

Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal
Man City 3-0 Chelsea
Wolves 1-1 Hull City
Reading 0-0 Leeds United
Wigan 0-0 Doncaster

Sergio Aguero was denied three times by in-form Chelsea stopper Asmir Begovic, before finally beating him with a low right-foot effort that went in off the post.

Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho added a second and third respectively as the 2014-15 Premier League runners up set down an early marker against the champions.

Such was City’s dominance that England goalkeeper Hart had a relatively quiet afternoon.

He was, however, called into action when Eden Hazard forced a fine save with the game delicately poised at 1-0.

But it was not to be for Jose Mourinho’s men, who have now failed to win either of their first two league fixtures for the first time since 1998.

At Selhurst Park Arsenal recorded their first points of the season with a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace.

The England trio of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs had to make do with a place on the bench.

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gibbs got onto the pitch, but it was Arsenal’s overseas contingent that made the difference on the day.

They took the lead through Olivier Giroud in the 16th minute, but were pegged back by Joel Ward’s fierce shot from the edge of the box.

However, Arsene Wenger’s side dug deep and took the lead again after Alexis Sanchez’s header was sliced into his own net by the unfortunate Damien Delaney.

Former England youth international Connor Wickham hit the post for Palace on his home debut, but the Eagles could not find a way back into the game.

Before any of the Premier League action got under way, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Hull City shared the points after a 1-1 draw at Molineux.

Seven current England youth internationals were involved in the game.

Under-21s striker Benik Afobe lined up for Wolves, alongside Under-20s defensive pair Dominic Iorfa and Kortney Hause

Under-18s international Sheyi Ojo – on loan at the Championship outfit from Liverpool – featured from the bench, while former Young Lion Connor Coady also played.

Among the visitors’ ranks were on-loan Arsenal duo Chuba Akpom and Isaac Hayden, as well as summer signing Moses Odubajo – all of whom represented England Under-20s during the 2014-15 campaign.

The visitors had taken the lead through Nikica Jelavic’s spot kick after Hause was adjudged to have fouled Curtis Davies inside the box.

They would have left the Midlands with the victory but for a howling error from goalkeeper Allan McGregor, which allowed James Henry to tap in to an empty net.

Akpom almost made it three goals in as many games as both sides pushed for a winner, but the young striker struck the post and the game ended all square.

While in Berkshire there was also a clean sheet for former England Under-21s stopper Jonathan Bond, as Reading and Leeds United played out a 0-0 stalemate at the Madejski Stadium.
