Greg Dyke and Roy Hodgson prepare to lay wreaths

The FA joined the rest of English football in marking the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire disaster.

Chairman Greg Dyke and England manager Roy Hodgson were in attendance at Valley Parade, currently known as the Coral Windows Stadium, as fans of Bradford, Barnsley and Lincoln City came together to remember the 56 supporters who lost their lives on 11 May 1985.

A poignant ceremony was held next to the Valley Parade Fire Memorial before the match with representatives from the Bradford community, the Football League, the Premier League, the Scottish FA and Supporters Direct joining Hodgson and Dyke in laying a wreath. Prayers were also read by Bradford chaplain Andrew Greiff before a minute’s silence.

There was also a further minute’s silence ahead of kick-off which was impeccably-observed by the 15,560 crowd who went on to witness the Bantams’ 1-0 victory over Barnsley on an emotional day in Yorkshire.

That mark of remembrance was echoed around the country with all clubs within the Premier League, Football League, FA Women’s Super League and at County FA level also observing a minute’s silence.
