Rose expects tight quarter final tie against Chelsea

All four FA Women’s Cup quarter final ties carry their own special intrigue but the London derby between holders Arsenal and Chelsea is arguably the headline match of the weekend.

And Jemma Rose is adamant that both she and her team-mates will rise to the occasion with an FA Cup hat-trick on offer.

Rose was not present when the Gunners held the trophy aloft in both 2013 and 2014, having made the jump from Bristol Academy over the winter.

Sixth Round Proper

Notts County v Aston Villa
Manchester City v Birmingham City
Everton v Charlton Athletic
Arsenal v Chelsea
All ties will take place on Sunday 12 April

That hasn’t stopped the England Under-23s defender slotting seamlessly into the set-up and she is a big reason why Arsenal’s pedigree in The FA Women's Cup has so far carried into 2015.

But Rose, who has taken an immediate shine to life under manager Pedro Martinez Losa, knows fine margins will play their part on Sunday – only extra-time separated the two sides in the Semi-Final last year.

She said: “There is no doubt that Chelsea will be a tough game.

"They play a very similar style to us and they have some great attacking players who have a bit of speed when going forward.

“But these are the games you want to be involved, the big Arsenal versus Chelsea games, so I am really excited about it.

“It will be tough, we know that, but if we stick to how Pedro wants us to play then we will be fine.

“Last year when I was at Bristol, playing Chelsea was one of the toughest games of the season but with Arsenal I am hoping it will be a different story.”

Chelsea have not yet won The FA Women’s Cup, though, and after a penalty shootout defeat in the 2012 Final – let alone last year’s heartbreak – some would say it’s long overdue.

Manager Emma Hayes has drafted in a host of new faces after going so close to FA WSL 1 success in 2014 and one of those signings, Millie Bright, is desperate to etch the club’s name on the trophy.

She said: “I am really excited about the Arsenal game. We don’t really fear any team but we know Arsenal will be difficult.

“But if we keep doing what we have been doing in these first three games then we should be OK.

“The FA Cup is a great competition and one we definitely want to go far in, but we are taking it one game at a time and no one is looking past Arsenal.

“We have recruited well and there have been lots of changes from last season so we are still finding our feet a bit, but as a squad we are exciting about what we can do.”

Charlton Athletic are the only club outside of The FA WSL’s two leagues left in the competition and, as 2005 winners, have history to live up to when they travel to 2010 winners Everton, who reached The Final last year.

In an all-FA WSL 1 battle Manchester City host Birmingham – the latter in particularly supreme form in the competition after knocking out WSL 1 champions Liverpool in the Fifth Round.

And last but by no means least Notts County will aim to match last year’s efforts – having lost to Everton in the Semi-Finals – as they entertain FA WSL 2 outfit Aston Villa.

This season's FA Women's Cup Final will be staged at Wembley Stadium for the first time.
