Leah Williamson had a late penalty chalked off

Leah Williamson had an added time penalty disallowed as England Women’s Under-19s slipped to defeat in their opening Euro elite round qualifier.

With 96 minutes on the clock and Norway leading 2-1 in Belfast, Mo Marley’s side were handed a chance to level from the spot.

Williamson converted the kick but referee Marija Kurtes ruled the goal out for encroachment – and awarded an indirect free-kick.

Vilde Fjelldal broke the deadlock just before the hour mark and an unfortunate own goal by Molly Bartrip put the Scandinavians 2-0 up with just four minutes to go.

Substitute Rosella Ayane, on for Carla Humphrey, halved the deficit on 88.

And Arsenal youngster Williamson thought she had earned her side a point at the death, only to be left deflated by Kurtes’s whistle.

England’s second qualifier is against Northern Ireland on Monday (4pm BST kick-off).
