North Greenford United march on in FA Cup Qualifying

Tuesday 23 Sep 2014
North Greenford will now take on Waltham Abbey in the next round

North Greenford United came from behind to beat Sileby Rangers 3-1 in The FA Cup First Qualifying Round.

United went into this match as favourites and started the better side, but they looked like being on the wrong end of an early FA Cup upset when Elliot Dent put Sileby ahead two minutes into the second half.

But Greenford, who play in Division One Central of the Southern Football League, held their nerve against their hosts from the Premier Division of the United Counties League.

Defender Michael Kinsella got the first of his two goals when he scored the equaliser from from a Lou Stead corner.

Stead and Kinsella had possibly been the visitors’ most dangerous players in the first half too, as Sileby defended well.

Stead struck a long range free kick which was well saved and Kinsella headed narrowly over the bar shortly after he had gone close with a 20-yard effort too.

But Kinsella showed he knew where the back of the net was again when he headed in his second goal of the night to give his side the lead.

Sileby looked to have scored a late equaliser only to have their effort disallowed.

And there really was no way back from them after a cracking goal from George Moore made it 3-1 right at the end.

North Greenford United now face a Second Round Qualifying tie at Waltham Abbey on Saturday 27 September.
