It’s not about the money for Diamonds boss in The FA Cup

The experience of playing in the world's greatest cup competition is far more important than increased funding from progressing in The FA Cup, according to AFC Rushden & Diamonds manager Andy Peaks.

The Diamonds travel to the Earlsmead Stadium to face Hendon in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup this Saturday.

With almost 50 league places separating the teams, Hendon will be seen as favourites to progress. But it would be unwise to write off Peaks' side who have enjoyed a perfect start to the season, winning all three of the matches they have played.

"We are definitely the underdogs as Hendon are a very good side,” said Peaks.

"But it's a good game for us, there's no pressure on us so we can really test ourselves against a very strong team."

The club, which was formed by supporters in 2011 after Rushden and Diamonds suffered liquidation, has a fine recent pedigree, too.

They performed admirably in last season's Cup competition, reaching the Third Round Qualifying before bowing out to Dover Athletic, and although he knows Hendon will provide a tough tes, Peaks is looking to create a moment of cup magic for the club.

"Funding is a bonus, but the experience for the club is more important," he said.

"FA Cup matches are always a good day out for the fans, and we will definitely play to win, but each man will have to be at their best for us to compete."
