The FA Vase Second Round round-up

Gaz Grant was the hero for St Helens Town as he struck the extra-time winner to settle a nine goal thriller away to Alnwick Town.

The sides were locked at 4-4 at the end of 90 minutes but Grant made it a day to remember when he scored the winner for the North West Counties Premier Division side.

Alnwick were matching their best run in the Vase since 1976, but there was to be no third round fairytale for the Northumberland outfit from the Northern League Division Two.

Flackwell Heath had an away day to remember too as they celebrated an 8-0 win at East Preston to cruise through to the third round of the competition.

The High Wycombe Hellenic Premier Division team were no match for their West Sussex opponents from the Sussex County League Division One.

That was the most impressive score on the road, but not to be outdone, Consett also booked their place in the the next round with a thumping 8-0 win over former FA Vase winners Whickham.

At least the Tyne and Wear Northern League Division Two side did not have too far to travel home from County Durham, but they were simply unable to stop the march of the Conny Army.

It was a devastating display of cup football from the Northern League One team who were established back in 1899 and are looking up for a good season.

There were seven goals in the big Cornish derby as Bodmin Town won 5-2 against St Blazey.

Guisborough Town missed a penalty in their 2-1 defeat at 2012 Vase winners Dunston UTS. The goalscorers were Andrew Bulford and David Coulson for the winning home side.
