England defeated Holland in the European U17 Championship Final

Roy Hodgson congratulated the England U17 team after they won the European Championship in Malta on Wednesday.

John Peacock’s young side defeated Holland on penalties in the Final after the game ended 1-1.

It is the second time in five years that Peacock has led an U17 side to European glory, following the 2010 win in Liechtenstein.

And England Manager Hodgson, who is currently with his squad at a pre-World Cup training camp in Portugal, revealed he has already been in touch with Peacock to pass on his compliments.

He said: “I texted John after the game to say what a brilliant job he has done and to say congratulations to the players.

“Everyone out here in Portugal was following the game and we’ve been talking about it again today.  The young lads did brilliantly and their penalty taking was excellent.

“So well done to everyone involved, it’s a very proud moment for all the players.”

Hodgson and his captain, Steven Gerrard, sent a good luck message to the U17s which was played to the squad before the Final.
