Arsene Wenger is a football visionary who has transformed Arsenal and the English game, according to The FA’s chairman Greg Dyke.

The Frenchman will take charge in his 1,000 game as Arsenal manager at Chelsea on Saturday – and Dyke believes the 64-year-old’s career is worthy of celebration.

“On behalf of The Football Association, I would like to congratulate him on reaching his 1,000th game in charge when Arsenal face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and wish him continued success in the future,” he said.

“Arsene Wenger has had a huge impact on English football since joining Arsenal in 1996.

“In his 17 years with the Gunners he has turned the club into one of Europe’s leading sides, winning three league titles and four FA Cup successes and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in every one of his full seasons in charge.

“Arsenal have played some of the best football in Europe since Arsene has been at the helm and he has also helped transform the way coaches think about the game in this country."
