Jodie McGuckin receives her award

Copsewood Coventry Ladies captain Jodie McGuckin is the inaugural winner of The FA Women’s Cup Player of the Round award.

McGuckin set up all three goals as her side edged Larkhall Athletic after extra-time to make it through to the Fourth Round for the first time in their history.

The midfielder’s performance saw her nominated by fans, and a judging panel comprising eight-time Cup winner Rachel Yankey*, BBC commentator Jacqui Oatley and The Independent’s Glenn Moore selected her as the winner.

McGuckin said: "I am delighted to have won the first Player of the Round award.

"I couldn’t have won it without my team-mates and manager and I would like to thank everyone for their support, it's very much appreciated."

The Birmingham FA presented McGuckin with her award and she has also won two VIP tickets to this season’s Final, which will be staged at stadium:mk, home to MK Dons, on Sunday 1 June.

Yankey added: "So often the player responsible for the pass or cross for a goal gets overlooked, so I wanted to reward Copsewood’s captain Jodie with the accolade.

"She put in a real shift and drove her team into the next round, displaying a fantastic array of through balls, cut-backs and excellent ball distribution. She led by example like all the best captains do, even when extra-time was taking its toll.

"Well done Jodie and good luck in the next round."

The FA have are also rewarding the best photograph and best match report from each round, too.

The photo of the Third Round is by Blackburn supporter Colin Shorrock who captured Edie Manning scoring her second goal against Middlesbrough (above). Shorrock will receive two tickets to The Final.

The pick of the match reports was submitted by Doncaster Rovers Belles’ media executive Mark Donnelly who will also receive a pair of tickets to the June showpiece.

*Yankey will be judging up until the Fifth Round when her own club, Arsenal, enter the competition.
