Jill Scott believes England’s Women can beat any team in the world on their day.

The Manchester City midfielder spoke to FATV as the Three Lions continued their preparations for the World Cup qualifier in Ukraine.

Mark Sampson’s side defeated Belarus 3-0 at the weekend and they stayed in Minsk to train ahead of Thursday’s match.

Natasha Dowie and Eniola Aluko each scored twice as England ran out 4-0 victors against Ukraine in Shrewsbury last month.

Scott said: “Ukraine banked up in the last game and made us work the ball around.

“I think they’ll be a tough test but we need to get the points and we’ll be that one step closer to World Cup qualification.

“They are a decent team technically, they want to miss our press[ing game] out which makes it a bit difficult because we are good at winning the ball back. That’s something that Mark has definitely tried to implement in the squad.

“If we play to our high standards then, on our day, there’s no team that we shouldn’t be able to beat.”

The 27-year-old is often cited by team-mates as being the squad’s most lively character, but Scott said there has been a positive atmosphere in the camp ever since they met up in Maidenhead last Tuesday.

She added: “We’ve got a good group of players, we get on really well and we manage our time well. We’ve been getting together at night, supporting the England men’s team. It’s good that the World Cup’s on and we can get behind the men’s team.

“It’s a long trip but everybody seems to be enjoying it. There’s a real buzz around the team and we really want to qualify and look ahead to the World Cup.”

England are top of Group 6, having won all seven qualifiers to date, without conceding a goal, and they require just four points from their remaining three matches to reach Canada 2015, providing Wales defeat Belarus on Thursday.
