The first 15 minutes of the session was open to the media, before Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson got down to work with his players on their plans for the World Cup opener against Italy on Saturday night.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continues treatment to recover from his knee injury, while Danny Welbeck also sat out of the session.

After the session, in which 21 of Hodgson’s squad trained, they will spend the rest of the day in Rio. They will then fly to Manaus on Thursday ahead of their meeting with the Azzurri at Arena da Amazonia.

The team will not train at the training ground in Manaus on Thursday. The management and sports science staff have decided to take a warm-down session at the team hotel in line with their build up for previous games.

The Three Lions will then train at Arena da Amazonia on Friday ahead of their World Cup opener.
