England U17s face Moldova, Bulgaria and Russia in Euro qualifying

England Women’s U16s finished third in the annual Nordic Tournament after a penalty shootout win over Norway.

Despite Monday’s loss to host nation Sweden, the Young Lions reached the play-off following group stage wins over Holland and Iceland.

Derby County’s Ashleigh Plumptre, who scored the winner against the Dutch, broke the deadlock in Stromstad, only for the Norwegians to equalise before half-time.

Chelsea midfielder Alessia Russo restored England’s advantage after the break but Norway levelled once more with just two minutes remaining to force penalties.

Mollie Rouse, Jessica Jones, Georgia Stanway and Plumptre all converted their spot kicks and Sandy MacIver saved a Norwegian penalty to hand England victory.

This tournament acted as preparation for the upcoming UEFA Euro U17 qualifying campaign.

England will take on Moldova, Bulgaria and Russia in October, with the top two nations progressing to the final stage of qualifying next April.
