World Cup Wrap: Rappers, an open-top bus and a bad smell

World Cup Wrap Day 22
The latest World Cup wrap comes on the eve of the quarter-final – and the peculiar and funny stories continue to emerge from what is turning out to be one of the most memorable tournaments in history.

Smell you later

Neymar is undoubtedly the star attraction of the Brazilian team, so if you find yourself sat next to his partner Bruna Marquezine you can be sure you’d want to make the right impression.

Well that was not the case for one Brazil fan who left her disgusted during their dramatic second round victory over Chile.

Perhaps after one too many beers, things got a bit gassy, and the fan let rip – leaving poor Bruna fuming.

Obviously proud of his efforts, the offender captured her reaction to the whole stinking mess on camera and posted it on Youtube – which you can watch below.

Ice Ice Merter

Arsenal’s Per Mertesacker captured the headlines with his prickly post-match interview after Germany’s narrow victory over Algeria.

He came in for criticism following his country’s extra-time victory, but he hit back at reporters – “What do you want from me? We’re in the last eight,” he said.

“I’m going to lie in the ice bath for three days!”

But in an effort to cheer the man affectionately known as ‘BFG’ up, his rant, and a picture of him posing in a make-shift ice bath, have been transformed into a rap mix.

You can watch German website 11Freunde’s amusing mash-up of Mertersacker rapping Vanilla Ice classic ’Ice Ice Baby’ below.

A hero’s welcome

They may have been eliminated from the last 16 stage this week, but Algeria had a warm welcome waiting for them upon their arrival home.

As the last African team remaining in the whole tournament, and despite not progressing to the quarter-final stage, the squad’s efforts were duly recognised as they received a hero's welcome in Algiers.

After an open-top bus parade taking them through the streets, Algeria’s stars were then personally greeted and thanked by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.
