England Women’s captain Casey Stoney has re-signed for Arsenal Ladies.

The defender began her career in north London in 1999 before enjoying spells at Charlton Athletic, Chelsea and Lincoln.

Stoney is the second Three Lions international to join the Gunners during the FA WSL's close season after goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain signed from Bristol Academy.

Stoney said: "It's a great feeling to be coming back to Arsenal Ladies.

"They're a team with a fantastic tradition, and it's where I started out so it's a special move for me. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in to preparations for the 2014 campaign.

"I owe a lot to Lincoln - I had a fantastic three years there. When I decided to leave it was difficult, because Rick Passmoor is a brilliant manager, but I had to make a decision that was right for me at this time of my life."

Gunners general manager Vic Akers added: "We’re delighted to be welcoming Casey back to the club.

"She’s one of the finest defenders in the women’s game at the moment and she’ll bring fantastic experience to our team.

"We already have an excellent defensive unit here, and adding the England captain will only serve to strengthen that further."
