England manager Roy Hodgson heads to Brazil this weekend

England Manager Roy Hodgson heads to Brazil this weekend as part of a fact-finding mission ahead of this summer's World Cup.

England face Italy at the Arena da Amazonia in Manaus on 14 June, and Hodgson will travel to the city, via a stop-over in Miami where the Three Lions face two pre-World Cup friendlies.

Hodgson's trip comes this weekend due to the FIFA World Cup Workshop in Florianopolis, which he will attend along with the 31 other managers at this summer's tournament.

Roy will visit the stadium in Manaus

He has already been to Brazil many times - most recently for the World Cup draw in December. He also visited group stage cities Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte as well as the base camp city of Rio.

In Manaus, Hodgson and the Club England managing director Adrian Bevington will be accompanied by the British ambassador to Brazil Alex Ellis.

They will visit the stadium where England face Italy as well as the team hotel, allocated to us by FIFA, and training base.

The delegation will also visit areas of local interest – both business and cultural.

"I know the facilities in Miami so I am not really expecting to see anything different to what I saw when I was there several months ago. It's a stopping off point for Manaus," explained Hodgson.

"It was quite convenient to go to Manaus via there because it's on the way down. But the main point of the journey, apart from attending the FIFA seminar, is to see Manaus for a couple of days.

"That is what I am really looking forward to because I will be interested to see the stadium, the hotel, the training field."

He added: "It will be a great experience. It's a great year, a World Cup year and, what is more, it's one we have qualified for and we are playing in Brazil.

"We have some very exciting young players breaking through who if they have anything about them might be looking to grasp their opportunity with both hands.

"There is an awful lot to look forward to. I am optimistic that we will come out of it on the right side."
