Lucy Bronze in action for England

Lucy Bronze really cemented her place in England’s starting eleven over the past 12 months.

The defender had only made five appearances at the start of 2014, but as we head into the World Cup year she has now earned 16 caps.

Bronze has turned out across the back four for her country but it is in the heart of defence, alongside Steph Houghton, that she really impressed.

She helped England keep clean sheets in seven of her 11 caps.

And she also netted her first international goals – one each against Belarus and Montenegro.

Such was Bronze’s importance to Mark Sampson, only five players played more for England in 2014 than Manchester City’s new signing.
