Ruben Loftus-Cheek notches for England U19s
England U19 international Ruben Loftus-Cheek cannot contain his excitement as he prepares for his Chelsea first team debut at Stamford Bridge.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been at The Blues for nearly 10 years and trained with the senior squad today ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League group match with Sporting Lisbon.

With manager Jose Mourinho stating this afternoon in his pre-match press conference that Loftus-Cheek will play some part tomorrow, the youngster is counting down the seconds until kick-off.

“It’s great, it’s amazing for me,” he told ChelseaFC.com. “I’ve been here for quite a while now - since I was eight - so to be involved, even just training with the first team, means a lot to me.

“To play tomorrow night would be amazing. Since I was a young kid I’ve been watching Chelsea on the TV and thinking maybe one day I’ll be playing at Stamford Bridge.

“If the opportunity comes then great but if it doesn’t then I’ll keep working hard, do my best every day and see what happens.”

Should he feature against Sporting, Loftus-Cheek will join Dominic Solanke, an England U18 international, in making his Chelsea first team bow this season.

And Loftus-Cheek explained in greater detail the experience of working with the senior squad.

He said: “We’re all very excited to be training with the first team and getting opportunities. We’re confident in our ability to do well if and when the opportunity comes.

“It can be a bit daunting especially when you go over there for the first time but it’s about taking it in your stride, being confident and not being scared to try things in training. I think that’s how you go forward and impress.

“We’ve got some good talent coming through. You have to think you can do it and be positive.

“All we can do is do our best and when we get the opportunity to train with the first team we’ve got to show that we want to play, show that talent and the rest is up to the management staff.”
