Rickie Lambert reckons Raheem Sterling has everything it takes to have an “unbelievable” season for club and country.

Lambert joined Liverpool from Southampton in June shortly before travelling to Brazil with Sterling and the England squad.

He has since spent time with the winger on the Reds’ pre-season tour of America and is excited to find out what the season ahead has in store.

Lambert told LiverpoolFC.com: "I've been really impressed by Razza [Raheem] on this trip and if he keeps on progressing the way he has done over the past year or two he's going to have an unbelievable season.

"I don't want to put pressure on him but I think he can handle anything that comes his way. He's a top lad as well.

"Nothing fazes him and that's full credit to the management. The manager has created an environment for the young kids to go and thrive and you can see the benefits of that."

Brendan Rodgers' side played five games while in America – against Roma, Olympiacos, Manchester City, AC Milan and Manchester United.

They were victorious against AC Milan and Olympiacos, and Manchester City on penalties, although they lost out to Roma and Manchester United.

Lambert said the experience has been positive as he looks to build partnerships with his new team-mates, and continue relationships with others already founded on international duty - including his new strike partner Daniel Sturridge.

"We played and trained a bit together with England so I kind of know Daniel's game," Lambert said.

“If he keeps on progressing the way he has done over the past year or two he's going to have an unbelievable season”

"I'm learning more and more about him each day. He's a special player and has got so much about his game.

"He's a top player and it makes my job a lot easier playing with someone as good as that."

Liverpool have one more pre-season friendly – against Borussia Dortmund on 10 August – before kicking off their Premier League campaign at home to Lambert's former club Southampton on 17 August.
