Alex Greenwood struck a fine second for Everton

Two-time winners Everton defeated Merseyside rivals Liverpool to become the first team to reach The FA Women’s Cup Semi-Finals.

The damage was done in the first half as a goal apiece from Nikita Parris and recent England debutant Alex Greenwood gave the Toffees a surprise win over the reigning FA WSL champions.

Andy Spence’s side went ahead after just 10 minutes courtesy of a fine individual effort from England U19 striker Parris.

She picked the ball up just inside the Reds half, burst forward unchallenged and fired a low shot beyond Danielle Gibbons.

Fara Williams and Amanda Da Costa both narrowly missed the target as Liverpool sought an equaliser, but Greenwood doubled Everton’s lead with a well-struck volley on the half-hour.

The Reds pressed hard in the second half to get themselves back into the game but to no avail and Everton will now face either Portsmouth or Notts County in the Semi-Final on Sunday 11 May.

Manchester City entertain Chelsea tomorrow while Birmingham City’s Sixth Round tie Arsenal will take place on Sunday 4 May due to Champions League commitments.
