Henri Lansbury has backed his former England Under-21s boss Stuart Pearce to prove a success at Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder won 16 caps under Pearce during his time with the Three Lions and is now preparing to work with the England legend again at Forest.

Pearce will take over at the City Ground at the end of the season, an appointment which has proved popular with fans and players alike given his legendary status at the club.

Lansbury was part of Pearce's England Under-21 squad for Euro 2013 in Israel

He spent 12 years as a player with the Reds with many of those as captain, picked up 78 England caps and won two League Cup titles during his time with the club.

And Lansbury admits the Forest squad are itching to get to work under their new boss when he arrives in the summer.

"The lads are looking forward to Stuart coming in, it will be a fresh start for everyone," said the 23-year-old.

"I've worked with him before and coming back here will give the fans and the players a lift and maybe that is what we need.

"He's a great man manager and he's a legend here so hopefully, he will get the best out the players.

"The fact that he is held in such high regard here by the fans, I think, is a plus."

Forest are still in with a chance of reaching the Championship play-offs this season, so when Pearce takes over, it could be for a campaign in the Premier League if things go to plan for Lansbury and his team-mates.

Caretaker boss Gary Brazil will remain in charge for the final six games of the season and with Forest currently sat five points behind the top six, Lansbury refuses to give up the chase.

"At the moment, we are still trying to nick a play-off spot so hopefully there will be a bit of momentum for when Stuart comes in," added the former Arsenal man.

"We haven't given up on this season, we are just going to take it game by game because if we win and the other teams around us lose, then we are right back in it.

"As you saw last year it went all the way to the final day, so you never know, hopefully we can nick it."

Lansbury was a regular for England in the development teams, picking up caps at U16, U17, U19 and Under-21 level in the last few years.
