England youngster Jordan Obita earned special praise from Reading boss Nigel Adkins after helping the Royals to victory over Nottingham Forest.

Former England U19 and U18 midfielder Obita scored the winner at the City Ground on Friday as Reading won 3-2 against Championship high-fliers Forest.

It was Obita’s first goal for the club, having come through the academy ranks and worked his way into the first team following loan spells at Barnet, Gillingham, Portsmouth and Oldham Athletic in recent seasons.

And Adkins was delighted to see the 19-year-old make his mark in such an impressive performance and result, after Forest had previously fought back from 2-0 down to seemingly snatch a point.

Adkins said: "That was his first goal for us. He's been at the club since he was eight and he's been doing ever so well. It was a great goal.

“I've given him a run in the team and he's done ever so well. You have to be bold and play these young players like Jordan.”

Obita made his England debut for Noel Blake’s U18s in November 2010, scoring in a 3-0 victory over Poland in Wycombe, a game which also saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain make his Three Lions debut.

Oxford-born Obita then went on to win six caps for the U19s in 2011.
