Chorley produced an outstanding performance at Forest Green Rovers to win a dramatic penalty shoot-out and keep their Wembley dreams alive.
With a 0-0 draw in the original match giving Chorley a second chance to overcome Forest Green, they were unlucky not to win the match in 90 minutes. Striker James Dean threatened the hosts’ defence with his aerial ability, but neither team could break the deadlock in 120 minutes and penalties would be the answer.
Chorley goalkeeper Sam Ashton proved to be the hero, saving from Matthew Barnes-Homer, James Norwood and Paul Green to secure a 3-1 penalty win and confirm his side's place in the last sixteen.
Gosport Borough also advanced to the FA Trophy Third Round Proper with a spot-kick win at Nuneaton Town.
Following another 0-0 draw in the first fixture, Gosport were forced to travel to Nuneaton knowing a win would set up a tie against Hungerford Town. The Skrill South side were handed some luck when Nuneaton top scorer Louise Moult could only make the bench due to illness.
Under the leadership of former player Kevin Wilkin, Nuneaton failed to make the most of their league advantage in a tense affair.
After a goalless 90 minutes, both sides failed to net an all-important winner in extra time and the match was taken to penalties. Moult and James Belshaw both missed their spot-kicks, while Gosport converted their first four, ensuring a 4-2 win on penalties.
