Have you ever thought of trying refereeing?
As the development of playing opportunities for players with a disability has increased so inevitably has the need for Referees to officiate in matches that may include players with a range of impairments – these various impairments may include the following:
- Amputee*
- Blind*
- Deaf
- Dwarf
- Learning Disability
- Mental Health
- Partially Sighted*
- Pan Disability
- Powerchair*
- Wheelchair*
A variety of local leagues, many of them run by County FA’s will provide opportunities for players with a range of impairments, these come under the Pan Disability section where amended FIFA Laws of the Game will apply.
Dwarf football is played to seven a side rules using 5 a side size goals. There is a successful GB team who compete at the world dwarf games. At the DSA national Games there are junior and senior leagues played.
There is an excellence pathway for both players and coaches, this is complemented by a similar pathway for Referees, see the tab above for further details. With the 2012 Paralympics in London later this year there are a number of home country Referees who will have the exciting opportunity to officiate at both the Blind and Cerebral Palsy forms of football.
